Welcome to Awen!

This is a newsletter created by Mel Parks as a companion to her creative writing workshops, filling the well for beginners and people who’ve been writing a while.

Awen is Welsh for inspiration and with this newsletter, I wanted to share the cauldron of things I’m interested in to inspire you too. I want to rewrite the menopause narrative one story at a time and inspire you to keep a notebook as a tool for navigating midlife.

“Sharing stories and thoughts and the community that forms around that feels so much what this troubled world needs right now." Sally Sugg, after reading the first issue.

Every Friday you’ll receive a free newsletter about the creative process with occasional extracts from my unpublished writing, prompts, and reading recommendations.

I also run a weekly guided hour on Zoom (Tuesdays 2-3pm) for paid subscribers. I introduce writing prompts inspired by life themes or nature and the seasons. There will be quiet writing together then time for some reflection or reading out at the end. If you’d like some company to work on your own projects, but don’t want the prompts, then you can mute those parts.

This group is ideal if you’d like to block out time to write each week in supportive company or if you are looking for weekly inspiration for your writing. You can come to as many sessions as you are able to and you will have access to a password-protected web page with all the prompts in case you miss a week.
